LP SmartSide, Wood Siding

LP SmartSide siding is a highly durable and versatile siding system that offers several benefits over other siding options. It is made of engineered wood, which is strong and resistant to warping, cracking, and rotting. This makes it a more sustainable option compared to traditional wood siding that is prone to these issues over time.

Additionally, LP SmartSide siding is treated with a special process that provides enhanced protection against termites, fungal decay, and other environmental factors. This helps to prolong the life of the siding and reduce the need for frequent repairs or replacements.

Another advantage of LP SmartSide siding is its low maintenance requirements. LP SmartSide siding has a durable finish that does not require frequent attention like some other siding products. This helps to save time, money, and effort in the long term.

LP SmartSide siding is available in a wide range of colors, styles, and textures, allowing homeowners to customize the look of their homes to their individual preferences. This versatility, combined with its strength and durability, makes LP SmartSide siding a superior choice for homeowners looking for a reliable and long-lasting siding solution.

LP SmartSide Pros:

  1. Durable: Made of engineered wood, LP SmartSide siding is strong and resistant to warping, cracking, and rotting, making it a highly durable option. LP SmartSide products are rated to withstand hail impacts up to 1.75”.
  2. Protection: The siding is treated with a special process that provides enhanced protection against termites, fungal decay, and other environmental factors.
  3. Low Maintenance: With a durable finish, LP SmartSide siding does not require frequent attention or maintenance, saving time and money in the long term.
  4. Wide Range of Options: LP SmartSide siding is available in a wide range of colors, styles, and textures, allowing homeowners to customize the look of their homes to their individual preferences.
  5. Environmentally Friendly: LP SmartSide siding is made from sustainable, renewable materials, making it an environmentally friendly option.

LP SmartSide Cons:

  1. Fire Resistance: Less fire resistant than fiber cement siding.
  2. Painting: Paint and sealant needs to be applied about every 7-8 years.
  3. Cost: This siding system is generally more expensive than vinyl siding, but generally less expensive than fiber cement siding.

James Hardie, Fiber Cement Siding

James Hardie siding is a popular choice among homeowners due to its many benefits. Firstly, it is made of fiber cement, a durable material that is resistant to fire, moisture, and insects. This makes it an ideal choice for homes in areas prone to extreme weather conditions or natural disasters.

Another advantage of James Hardie siding is its low maintenance requirements. Unlike other siding options that may need to be painted regularly, James Hardie siding has a durable finish that does not require frequent attention. This helps to save time, money, and effort in the long term.

James Hardie siding is available in a wide range of colors, styles, and textures, allowing homeowners to customize the look of their homes to their individual preferences. This versatility, combined with its strength and durability, makes James Hardie siding a great choice for homeowners looking for a reliable and long-lasting siding solution.

James Hardie Pros:

  1. Durable: Fiber cement siding is known for its durability and resistance to warping, and rotting, making it a highly durable option for homeowners. Paint systems generally last 1-2 years longer on fiber cement siding systems (10-12 years).
  2. Fire Resistance: James Hardie siding is naturally fire-resistant, providing enhanced protection for homes and their occupants.
  3. Moisture Resistance: James Hardie siding is naturally moisture-resistant, making it a better choice for homes in humid climates.
  4. Low Maintenance: James Hardie siding is designed to be low-maintenance, with a finish that does not require frequent attention or painting.
  5. Aesthetically Pleasing: James Hardie siding is available in a range of colors and styles, allowing homeowners to customize the look of their homes to their individual preferences.

James Hardie Cons:

  1. Cracking: Since fiber cement is very rigid, it has a tendency to crack and chip over time.
  2. Wind Resistance: This is a particular problem we face in our region. The winds have a tendency to get underneath the fiber cement lap siding planks and cause what’s called “clapping” or “chattering”. Over time, this loosens the nails fastening the siding in place and causes them to be blown off.
  3. Cost: This siding system is generally the most expensive siding option, compared to vinyl and engineered wood siding.
  4. Complexity: Fiber cement siding is harder to install due to the weight, and rigidity. This makes installs take longer and more care is needed when installing these products.

How we install our siding systems

Choosing the right materials is important. Even more important is how the system is installed. Every complete siding system we install comes with a lifetime workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s material warranty. We offer this warranty because we know we build our siding systems to last.

Prep for the install:

  • Our supplier will load the materials on site prior to the install.
  • Lay tarps around the house, as needed, to collect debris, and cover A/C units.
  • Remove all layers of existing siding down to exterior sheathing.
  • Make repairs to the wall sheathing as needed.
  • Nail down or pull remaining fasteners on the wall sheathing.
  • Detach and reset all exterior items such as lights, cable, vents, downspouts, etc.

Installation:

  • Install a new weather-resistive-barrier (WRB) on all exterior walls.
  • Install window/door flashing tape around all fenestrations.
  • Install new metal flashing cap over the top of all windows/doors.
  • Install trims around all windows, doors, inside and outside corners. Metal flashing will be installed over all horizontal trims.
  • Install field siding.
  • Install new house numbers.
  • Paint the new siding system with Sherwin Williams exterior paint. All joints will be caulked. (butt joints on fiber cement will be treated with a pan flashing and not caulked).

Clean up:

  • Clean up debris from around the exterior of the house and yard.
  • Roll a magnet on wheels around the house to pick up nails.
  • Haul off and dispose of all debris.

Note:

  • Each type of siding system has some variation for the installation. However, this is a general outline of what to expect.
  • Vinyl siding comes pre-painted and should never be painted.

In The Event Of An Insurance Claim:

  • We Will Prove A FREE Inspection To Determine The Severity Of Damage.
  • We Will Work With Your Insurance Provider.
  • We Will Give You A Clear Understanding Of What’s Going On.
